When we were at Balsam Lake Provincial Park recently, we were entertained by the chipmunks in the campsite. There was one that was particularly friendly and was anxious to get whatever treats there were around.Sometimes it seemed like he was posing and waiting for me to take his picture. The chipmunk stores food in its pouch (cheek area) and then takes the food back to its burrow. In the winter, he wakes and eats from this food supply.
Chipmunks live from two to five years in the wild. Females usually have a litter of 2-7 in the spring. We really enjoyed the antics of this one. It’s amazing seeing the details in the creatures that God has created.
