We have a brown creeper in our back yard. We’ve seen several of them through the summer, but we haven’t noticed any here in the winter before. When I checked, it looks like they winter down in the United States for the cold months. So it looks like we might have another little bird who didn’t go south for the winter.
Their colouring makes it very difficult to see them. Usually the first thing you notice is the movement, and you have to look closely to see them.
I don’t know how this one is managing. They have a curved bill that lets them dig into crevices for the insects and spiders that they eat. They creep along the trees, usually from bottom to top as they look for the insects.
I wonder what this one is eating – I don’t think there are many insects or spiders alive, unless it is able to find the ones that are dormant
Somehow, it has survived so far, even though we have had some very cold days.
