This past week we were able to go camping at Arrowhead in Huntsville. It was a bit cool, but that was okay. One of the days, we went to Algonquin for a day of hiking. We were hoping to see some wildlife, but we didn’t. We saw more back at Arrowhead the next day.

We saw a couple of frogs …

… and a toad. He didn’t stay around for me to get a photo of his face.

This great blue heron flew in past us on the kayak, and didn’t seem very nervous about us being there. He was too busy fishing.

The snapping turtle in the next picture didn’t move at all, even though we were up fairly close to it. We wondered if it was dead … its shell was very dry. However when Neil splashed it with some water, it moved its head just a little bit – just to let us know it was still alive.

We also saw a deer on the shore that wasn’t very afraid of us either. My camera decided not to focus, so I don’t have a picture of it.

The photos of the loons are from a pontoon boat ride we took this afternoon. We saw 9 loons together on the lake. I wasn’t able to get them all into the photo.
