When we were at Drumheller last fall, we went to the Historic Site for Star Coal Mines. We used the suspension bridge to cross the Red Deer River and get a closer view of the badlands where some coal mining used to take place.
In the picture below you can see an abandoned coal mine shaft in the distance. Originally, the miners took the coal out by picks and shovels. What a difficult job that must have been.
The suspension bridge was interesting to walk across. There were a couple of guys fishing from the bridge. I guess they were used to the way it would swing when people walked on it.
It’s interesting when you think about coal, and how it is formed in the earth – God has made a very interesting world for us to live in.
