One of the tree stumps on our road has some fungi growing on it. I looked up some information about fungi and found some interesting facts. I have no idea what kind of fungus this is.
- there are thousands of types of fungus
- the word “fungus” comes from the Latin word meaning “mushroom”
- “fungi” is the plural of “fungus”
- often a fungus is like an iceberg – we only see the “tip” of it – it is growing below the surface, and the part we see is the fruit
- the part we see grows and scatters the spores so that they will grow into more fungi
