We have five otters in our lake right now. It’s hard to get photos of them because they head out into the lake when you get near them. but I have been able to get a few pictures of them in the last while.
I enjoy watching them and listening to them as they chatter and whistle to each other. They always seem to be busy swimming and fishing. Otters can stay underwater for up to 8 minutes while looking for food. They eat a variety of birds, fish, frogs, turtles, and even some muskrats or rabbits.
The river otters are about 3 to 4 feet long and weigh up to 30 pounds.
When I’ve kayaked up the little river at the end of the lake, I’ve seen the slides that they use for getting into the river. I didn’t know they can run fast, but found out that they can run up to 15 miles per hour.
