This summer we were able to go on a camping trip to Nova Scotia. We started out by staying a few days at Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia, which is on the Bay of Fundy, and visited Cape Chignecto and Cape d’Or.
Cape Chignecto, Nova Scotia
There is a Provincial Park there where you can do wilderness hiking and camping. We walked along the beach and enjoyed the beautiful views.
When we came across these logs standing vertically, I wondered why they were there.
Once we got past them and looked back, we could see that they were protecting a small cottage or home from the high tides of Fundy.
Cape d’Or:
Cape d’Or was also interesting. It is at the north point of the entrance to the Minas Basin. The cliffs were very interesting to see.
There are some interesting tidal currents at the Cape. They call it the Dory Rips because it is a rip tide and is created by three strong tidal currents colliding. You can see the turbulent water in the next picture.
There is a lighthouse at Cape d’Or. I can see why, since there are the cliffs and a reef, and the turbulent Dory Rip.
Although I took this picture in full daylight, I played with the editing to get the final picture below.
