We had a visitor in our backyard today. He or she wasn’t very afraid of us, and was having a snack. They will eat almost anything.

Raccoons live for about 3 to 5 years in the wild. They have been known to live for over 20 years when they are in captivity.

They are usually seen as a pest. They are quite intelligent and apparently can remember how to solve a problem up to 3 years afterwards.

This one may be a mother. They often raise two to five young ones in the spring. The young are called “kits”. We may get to see the young ones later on this spring.
